Born in the Gilded Age, the Archer House River Inn boomed with popularity in the small town of Northfield. The stately red brick French Second Empire inn housed travelers that came by railway to visit the prestigious colleges of St. Olaf and Carleton. The Inn was described by the local newspaper as “an episode of the grandest proportions in Northfield’s history.” Today, the iconic building remains a town jewel—a vintage ruby—that has maintained its radiance throughout the years, thanks to preservation-minded investors.
